Disney+ Stands Firm on “Knock-Off” Delay Amid Kim Soo-hyun Controversy: What About ₩180 Billion KRW Penalty Rumors?

On May 23, during the Disney+ Open House held at Gangnam Finance Center in Seoul, Disney+ officially confirmed that the release of Knock-Off, starring Kim Soo-hyun, remains on indefinite hold following recent controversy surrounding the actor’s personal life.

Choi Yeon-woo, Head of Local Content at Walt Disney Company Korea, addressed the press regarding Disney+’s content strategy for 2025 but offered no new updates about the postponed drama.

“After careful internal review, the official position is that its release has been postponed,” Choi stated. “There are no additional updates beyond our initial announcement.”

The drama was previously scheduled for release in the first half of 2025 but has been noticeably excluded from Disney+’s official lineup. New titles announced for late 2025 include:

  • Tempest starring Jun Ji-hyun and Kang Dong-won
  • Made in Korea with Hyun Bin and Jung Woo-sung
  • Low Life featuring Ryu Seung-ryong, Yang Se-jong, and Lim Soo-jung
  • The Murky Stream with Rowoon, Shin Ye-eun, and Park Seo-ham
  • The Manipulated starring Ji Chang-wook and D.O.

For 2026, major upcoming projects include:

  • Delusion starring Suzy and Kim Seon-ho
  • War of Fate 49, a survival reality show

When asked about speculation that Disney+ could face a penalty of up to ₩180 billion KRW (~$132 million USD) due to contract violations, Choi responded:

“We are not in a position to provide an answer on that matter either.”
